Ruby Rupner Auditorium Rentals
The Ruby Rupner Auditorium is available for private rentals. The
auditorium is available for rent when it is not being utilized by the Nature
Center. The rental fee is $41.00 per hour between the hours of 7:00 am-
10:00 pm. We schedule events a year in advance. Smoking or alcohol is
not permitted. Book now for your future parties! The new log cabin is

Rental Policies
1. All existing Nature center ordinances apply including no smoking and no alcohol.
No barbecues, picnicking outside on the ground, collecting, biking, camping and or pets
are allowed.. Smoking is only allowed in the parking lot. Alcohol is not permitted
anywhere on the nature center property. There is no recreational equipment allowed in
the building or on the grounds Installed dance floors are not allowed. All children must
be supervised in the auditorium.
2. Use of the Nature Center must stay within the open hours of the nature center: 6:
00 am to 10:00 pm. All renters and security staff are required to be off the premises
by 10:00 pm.
3. Types of uses: Service organizations, shows, family reunions, graduations,
wedding receptions, anniversaries, youth programs, business seminars, memorials, etc.
Any use of the building must be approved by the Nature Center Director, Larry Dolphin,
and or the Austin Park, Recreation and Forestry Board.
4. A $100.00 confirmation deposit is required on all private rentals. The deposit
is non-refundable. (In case of inclement weather, the renter may reschedule the
event.)The $100.00 deposit will be cashed and deposited upon signing your rental
agreement. There is a 30.00 fee for any returned check due to non sufficient funds
5. The rental fee is $41.00 per hour: $30.00 per hour is to be paid to the Nature
Center and $11.00 per hour to the security person designated by the Nature Center
staff to oversee all rentals. The security person and rental fee will be paid the day of
the rental for the services rendered. The rental fee and security fee are to be paid
separately on the day of the rental.
***The rental fee includes garbage bags and garbage removal by the security person
***There is a discount for a full day rate for an 8 hour or longer rental: $220.00 (the
security fee is not included in this discount rate. The security fee at $11.00 per hour is
charged for each hour that the building is rented)
***Please note the rental fee includes the hours for set up and clean up during the use
of the auditorium. Please allow for this time when determining how long you want to
rent the auditorium.
6. Renter/lessee is responsible for all set up and clean up. This includes
vacuuming, cleaning the kitchen and sweeping and mopping floors. The building is to
look as when the renter/lessee arrived. The bathrooms and garbage are the
responsibility of the security person. The security person is also responsible for the
fireplace, heating, cooling and pulling the shades down and putting them up.
7. No candles allowed. The only exception is a unity candle used in a marriage
ceremony. Tablecloths, flowers, centerpieces can be used to decorate the tables.
8. There is to be no taping, tacking or stapling to any surface.
9. All food items must be catered or commercially prepared. Food prepared at
home may be brought in and served. Refrigeration, microwave and stove are
available. The stove is for keeping food warm, not cooking food.
10. General liability insurance is required with all private rentals. An insurance
certificate shall be delivered no later than seven days prior to the event. A copy of the
front page of the renter’s home or business owner’s insurance form will meet this
requirement.
11. All tables, chairs, dollies, interior furnishings and decorations must remain in
the auditorium during the rental. The falcon silhouettes on the windows are not to be
taken down, bird taxidermies are not to be taken down off the cabinet, and no removal
of paintings off the wall. The chairs and tables are located on the west wall of the
auditorium. The tables and chairs are to be returned to this area under the direction of
the security person. This is to minimize the damage done to the walls of the auditorium
and carpet. No tables and chairs are allowed to be set up outside. Use the chair cart for
moving the chairs and please do not drag the chairs across the carpet. Table carts are
not to be moved. The tables should be lifted off the carts and then placed in the
auditorium.
***The auditorium has 29 tables that can seat 6 people per table comfortably.
***There are 160 chairs. No tables and chairs are allowed to be setup outside.
***The tables are 72 inches by 36 inches.
***If you are interested in looking at a variety of interior table and chair setup designs,
please ask the Nature Center Assistant-Auditorium Coordinator.
***The auditorium provides a phone, TV/VCR-DVD, overhead projector, easels
(without paper), podium, slide projector and screen that are available to renters.
***The kitchen has two 100 cup coffee makers, 3 hot servers, 4 pitchers and a variety
of serving utensils available for renters.
12. The table carts are not to be moved. Please carry the tables to where you
would like them set up and use the chair cart to move the chairs.
13. A sound system is available for an additional rental fee of $20.00.
14. The Park and Recreation Department, Nature Center and other city government
functions have priority as well as free use of the auditorium.
Ruby Rupner Auditorium Agreement
Lessee, its agents and employees shall not conduct on the J.C. Hormel Nature Center premises that
which are contrary to the laws, regulations, ordinances or any government authority or the rules and
regulations of the Ruby Rupner Auditorium. If Lessee is advised of any violation by it, its agents,
employees or persons it had admitted, Lessee will immediately desist from and correct such violations.
Lessee will pay the cost of repairing any and all injury or damage which may be done to the building or
any of the fixtures, furniture or furnishings thereof by and any act of Lessee or any of the Lessee’s
employees or agents or anyone visiting the building upon the invitation of the Lessee, including the
patrons of the attraction or function for which the Lessee is renting the premises.
The Lessee shall be liable for payment of the full amount of the fee whether said auditorium is in fact
used or not on the dates specified below, unless the City of Austin and Lessee agree to the re-
scheduling of said event or events at a time agreeable to the City of Austin.
The City of Austin had adopted certain rules and regulations for the operation of said
Ruby Rupner Auditorium. Said rules and regulations are on file with the Director of the
J.C. Hormel Nature Center and are hereby made part of this agreement. Said Lessee
agrees to abide by said rules and regulations.
